Jianhua Zhao, PhD

(he/him/his)

Assistant Professor

JZ acquired his Ph.D. in Medical Biophysics with John Rubinstein at the University of Toronto. He completed post-doctoral training with Yifan Cheng and David Julius at the University of California San Francisco. When not thinking about science, JZ enjoys being active outdoors.

Hanxiao Zhang, Msbme

(she/her/hers)

Graduate Student

Hanxiao graduated from UC Berkely with a Master's degree in Bioengineering. She is excited about working at SBP to further her research and potentially working towards her PhD. In her spare time, Hanxiao enjoys hanging out with her friends and snacking on boba tea.

Chenyu Zhou, MSBMM

(he/him/his)

Graduate Student

Chenyu graduated from Harbin Medical University with a Bachelor of Medicine in Basic Medicine. He went on to complete  a master’s degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine at the University of Southern California. Chenyu loves science and dabbles in the art of magic.

Zarith SOFIYA Mohammad Azlan, BSC

(she/her/hers)

Research Assistant 

Zarith graduated with an Associate degree in Science (Biology) from Everett Community College. She went on to complete a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry at the University of California San Diego. Outside the lab, Zarith is a Pizookie connoisseur.

Robin yu, Bsc

Lab Assistant

Robin graduated from UC San Diego with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. He studied the nitrogenase enzyme during undergrad in the Tezcan group. At SBP, he is working to establish antibody technology and learning more about cryo-EM. In his free time, Robin likes to eat out with friends and play chess.
